Obituary for Bonn "Butch" Loyce Garrett

Bonn "Butch" Loyce Garrett
Bonn “Butch” Loyce Garrett, Jr., 71, passed away December 30, 2016. Bonn was born in Buford, Georgia, to the late Bonnie and Ruby Chapman Garrett. He was predeceased by his brother, John. Bonn graduated from North Carolina State University in 1968 and prior to his retirement in 2011, he was a vice president of Metro Machine. Butch to his family and PopPop to his grandchildren, he was a kind, tender-hearted man who was slow to anger, patient, and honest in every way. Bonn was not one to lecture about life but led by firm, steadfast examples. Bonn believed in freedom and autonomy and approached people and issues with an open heart and a spirit filled with easy laughter. He taught those around him to think for themselves and to be comfortable with questions in matters of the heart and the eternal. He believed in doing the right thing when no one was there to see it. He was a friend to all, especially those in need. He served God, his family, and his friends with devotion and sincerity. Bonn could explain His Word through wisdom, intellect, and fervent prayer. He was a seeker with a deep love of Scripture. He treated all with respect, and his love for his family moved mountains.

Left to cherish his memory is his best friend and loving wife of 50 years, Rita Garrett; son, Bonn Garrett III (Kim); daughters Jennifer Olson (Paul) and Cami Loudermilk; twelve beautiful grandchildren; sister, Hilda (Hadden); sisters-in-law, Debra Garrett and Debbie Bradford (Denny); brother in-law, Rusty (Liz); and many family and friends.

A service to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be private. Please visit the book of memories at grahamfuneralhome.com to view the service if unable to attend and to leave a condolence to the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Unity Free Will Baptist Church, 360 Hickory Road E, Chesapeake, 23322.

We love you Butch, Bonn, PopPop, Dad, and friend.
