Pebble Otto  Piland, Jr.
Pebble Otto Piland, Jr., 90, a resident of San Antonio, Texas (formerly of Virginia Beach, Virginia), passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on December 27, 2016 in San Antonio, Texas where he resided. A native of Suffolk, Virginia, he was the son of the late Pebble O. Piland, Sr. and Margaret Jackson Piland. A graduate of Suffolk High School, Peb was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and served in World War II in the Asiatic Pacific and European African theaters, receiving the Victory World War II medal for his distinguished service. He was a member of the Boys Scouts of America where he served as Assistant Scout Master of Troop 499 in Virginia Beach.

Peb is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Katherine Ivey Piland; his daughter, Joi Piland Pierce and her husband, David, of San Antonio, Texas and his son, Mark I. Piland and his wife, Wanda, of Frisco, Texas; three grandchildren, Ryan L. Pierce and his wife, Erin and Jordan M. Pierce and his wife, Tracy, all of San Antonio, Texas; and Isabella I. Piland of Frisco, Texas; and five great grandchildren, all of San Antonio, Texas.

A man of great faith, Peb was a deacon and Sunday School teacher at both Kempsville Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Norfolk. He was also a member of Gideons International.

A homegoing celebration will be held in the chapel of Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 with Dr. Dick Baker officiating. Burial will be private. In addition to flowers, gifts may be given in his memory to The Television Ministry of First Baptist Church, San Antonio, (http://fbcsa.org/giving) or Gideons International.
