Obituary for Mary Elizabeth Carter

Mary Elizabeth Carter, 85, passed away September 24, 2016. Mary was born in Norfolk to the late Julian and Ellen Sawyer Hill. She and her brother were the owners of Hills Home for the Aged. Mary was a longtime member of Kempsville Baptist Church and the Kempsville Woman's Club. She was preceded in death by her son, Stephen W. Carter; brother, Julian P. Hill, Jr.: and beloved friends, Jean and Albert Robinson.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 65 years, Herbert L. Carter; son Michael and wife Lorraine; son Christopher; daughter-in-laws Grayce and Elizabeth; grandchildren Kelley, Samantha, Hunter, Kathryn, Nicole, Spenser, Wyatt, and Hayley; brother, Earl F. Hill; and a host of other family and friends. Her warm words, kind spirit, and infectious laugh will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 6-7:30 p.m. A service to celebrate her life will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Garden, Norfolk.
