Obituary for James "Jim" Crosley Nicholson

James "Jim" Crosley  Nicholson
CHESAPEAKE- James Crosley Nicholson, 90, passed away January 17, 2016. He was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Allan and Anna Rutherford Nicholson. Jim served his country in the United States Navy during WWII and was a Purple Heart Recipient. A retired foreman with Atlantic Wood Products, he was a member of South Norfolk Congregational Christian Church, a life member of the Robert Graham Chapter 26 DAV and volunteered for many years at Oscar Smith High School Athletic Dept. where he was known as “Mr. Nick”. Jim was a recipient of the VIAAA Distinguished Service Award in 2007 and was also an active member of the Chesapeake Relay for Life being known as the “Candy Man”. He was passionate about everything he undertook.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving and devoted wife, Marjorie Curling Nicholson; children, Cindy Payne (Larry) and Steve Nicholson (Kathy); grandchildren, Matthew Harrison (Jenn), Ashley Harrison, Steven Nicholson, Jr. (Katherine), Tyler Nicholson (Heather), and Mindy Ingram; great-grandchildren, Courtney, Alyssa, Hunter, Landon, Cody, Noah, Chase, Maddie and Caden; “sister”, Linda Carlile (Ray); extended family, Mike and Ginny Thompson, Ray and Kitty Westmoreland, and numerous other loving family and friends.

The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake on Thursday, January 21, 2016 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. A service to celebrate his life will be held Friday at the funeral home at 10 a.m. He will be laid to rest at 12 noon at Albert G. Horton, Jr. State Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Cindy Payne, 3116 Joseph Avenue, Chesapeake, VA 23324 for the local Relay for Life.
