CHESAPEAKE- Elton Albert Umphlett, Sr., 88, went to be with his Lord and Savior December 16, 2015. He was born in North Carolina to the late Elton and Ida Cartwright Umphlett. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, John. Elton retired from NORSHIPCO as a Boiler Room Mechanic, he was an active member of the Woodmen of the World, Chesapeake Chapter #46 and was also a member of Raleigh Heights Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed watching his westerns.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 63 years, Leona Frances Umphlett; children, Elton A. Umphlett, Jr., Cindy M. Paercy and her husband, John, Donald E. Umphlett, Sr., Mary “Becky” Roth and her husband, Gary and Joyce E. McGlone and her husband, Jerry; 23 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and numerous other loving family and friends.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 1 pm at Raleigh Heights Baptist Church, Chesapeake with Pastor Shannon Terhune officiating. Burial will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, Chesapeake on Monday from 6-7:30 pm.
