Obituary for Shirley Massengill Parker

CHESAPEAKE- Shirley M. Parker, 80, went to be with the Lord, November 9, 2014 with her family by her side. She was born in Johnston County, NC to the late William and Golda Massengill. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Willie E. Parker and sister, Elaine Penny. Shirley was a longtime member of Elizabeth River Baptist Church and enjoyed attending their senior group “The Opals”. One of Shirley’s fondest memories was her trip to the Land of Israel. She was an animal lover, especially her cats, but her true love was for her family.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Felix E. Parker (Cindy), Karen L. Santos (Larry) and Ricky W. Parker (Penny); grandchildren, Nicole L. Santos, Erica P. Yacus (George), Emily R. Parker and Danielle S. Parker; brothers, W. Gerald Massengill (Nita) and Ted W. Massengill (Susan); sister-in-laws, Shirley Parker, Lois Massengill, Faye Parker and Mamie Parker and numerous other family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at 11am at Graham Funeral Home, Chesapeake with Rev. Richard Saul officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-7:30pm. Donations may be made in her memory to Elizabeth River Baptist Church or the Chesapeake Humane Society.
