Obituary for William Floyd Brogden

William Floyd  Brogden
William "Floyd" Brogden, 88, of the Homestead section of Virginia Beach, went to be with the angels August 10, 2014 at Sentara Hospice House in Virginia Beach, VA. He was born in Durham, NC to the late Lonnie and Mary Undeen Moore Brogden, and lived in Virginia Beach for the last 52 years. He served his country in the United States Navy in WWII and the Korean War. He retired after 43 years with the Norfolk Southern Railway as a stock clerk and coal foreman. Floyd was a member of the Bayside Masonic Lodge #218 A.F.and A.M., Norfolk Scottish Rite Bodies, Khedive Shrine Temple A.A.O.N.M.S, Roadrunners Transportation Unit and Color Guard serving as Past Captain and Treasurer for 34 years. He was a member and Past President of the Ocean View Shrine Club, as well as a member of the Chesapeake Shrine Club.

He was a kind and gentle Husband, Dad, Pa Pa, Brother, Uncle and Friend. He had a tender heart and his passion in life was transporting children to the Shriners Hospitals. He loved to dance, fish and travel, but most of all he loved his family.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 65 years, Evelyn Hardee Brogden; daughter, Teresa Fentress and her husband, Robert; son, Jeffery Brogden; granddaughters, Christi Fentress, Haley Brogden, and Amber Roberts; brother, Norman Brogden; sisters, Clara Taylor, Betty Ellis, Daphine Lassiter; sister-in-laws, Callie Gray Buck and Barbara Cates; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert and James Brogden.

The family would like to thank Princess Anne Hospital, Dr. Celeste Bremer, nurse Susan Riggs and Sentara Hospice House for all the love and compassion that has been provided during his illness.

A funeral with Masonic Rites and Military Honors will be conducted on August 15, 2014 at 1 pm at Graham Funeral Home, Chesapeake, with Pastor William Mann officiating. He will be laid to rest at Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 14, 2014 from 6-7:30 pm at the funeral home.At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, in care of Khedive Temple, 545 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake, VA 23320.
