Graham Funeral Home

Our Heritage

In June 1929, Mr. J. Robert "Bob" Graham founded and established the Graham Funeral Home at 122 Berkley Avenue, Norfolk. He moved the location to 1302 Jefferson Street, South Norfolk (pictured above) the next year where he personally operated the business with his wife, Clara, until his death in November 1949. During those years, the business developed a solid reputation for personal service and sympathetic care throughout all of Tidewater.

Following his death, the firm continued to flourish and on March 1, 1975, Bonnie and Marie Smith purchased the business from the Graham's successors. Since that time, they have personally operated the business, building on the foundation begun by Mr. and Mrs. Graham.

Many additions were made to the South Norfolk location providing a full-service funeral ministry of caring Christian service to the Tidewater area.

In June 1998 the Smith's opened a second location in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake at 1112 Kempsville Road. Over the next seven years, they operated both locations; the original South Norfolk location was closed in 2005 after almost 75 years of service to the community.

In January of 2010 Scott Stroud, the manager of the firm, purchased the business from Bonnie and Marie Smith. Bonnie dedicated more than fifty years in service to the families of Hampton Roads prior to his death on October 9, 2013. Marie and Scott continue the legacy left to them and will do whatever is needed to uphold and continue the heritage that began so many years ago.
