SUFFOLK - James Edward Young, Sr., 83, of the 2800 block of Colonial Drive, went to be with the Lord on September 11, 2006 in Portsmouth. A native of South Norfolk, he was the son of the late James Estry and Thelma Lee McPherson Young and retired as a chief with the U. S. Coast Guard. He later retired as a mechanic with Sears, Roebuck and Company.

He is survived by his wife, Annie Nickerson Young; a daughter, Doti Coffey of Suffolk; three sons, James E. Young, Jr. and his wife, Debi of Tampa, FL, Richard D. Young and Alan A. Young, both of Chesapeake; three sisters, Esther Y. Piatt and Wilma Y. Hylton, both of Chesapeake; and Dorothy Y. Andrews of Virginia Beach; five brothers, Arnold L. Young and Kenneth W. Young, both of Chesapeake; Morris L. Young, William C. Young, and Frank R. Young, all of Hertford, NC; and seven grandchildren, Monica, Kristen, Kelley, Jill, Brandon, Samantha, and Kevin. He was the preceded in death by a son, Robert Young.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel with Pastor Shaun Clark officiating. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.
