CHESAPEAKE - Arnold Lee "Shorty" Young, Sr., 83 of Sparrow Road passed away in his home July 12, 2008 with his family by his side. A native of South Norfolk he was one of thirteen children to the late James and Thelma McPherson Young. A veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II, member of the Portsmouth Moose Lodge and retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Maudie Lee Young; two sons, Arnold Lee Young, Jr. and Randy Alan Young; four grandchildren, Jessica, Kathryn, Autumn and Randy, Jr.; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Esther Piatt, Wilma Hylton, and Dorothy "Peggy" Andrews; four brothers, Morris Young, Frank Young, William "Billy" Young, and Kenneth Young; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Infant, Joan Thelma Young, Gloria Young, and Juanita Bryant and two brothers, Jimmy Young and Ralph “Butch” Young.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, Chesapeake Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Treatment Center of Chesapeake General Hospital, 736 Battlefield Blvd., S., Chesapeake, VA 23320.
