Obituary for Kimberly Ann Garrett

Kimberly Ann Garrett suddenly and unexpectedly lost her battle at Sentara Princess Ann Hospital on April 11 after waiting nine days for lab and test results. She was finally diagnosed with a rare and aggressive lymphatic cancer called Burkitt’s Lymphoma, a very treatable disease if caught early; rapidly fatal if not. Kim was a vibrant, selfless woman whose dedication to her family as an amazing mother, wife, daughter, sister and aunt was evident in the goodness she left everywhere she walked. Her infectious smile and her big brown eyes sparkled each day. She touched each and every one of us in ways only Kim could. Her actions made so many significant differences in the lives of so many. To her son Grayson and her husband Bonn, she was their absolute everything. No language or measurement can seemingly fill the vacuum Kim’s absence has left.
Those who knew and loved her find solace in the fact that they are better people because of her endless blessings and the comfort she provided as such a strong, courageous, and confident woman. And as solid as Kim was, her spirit was comforting and gentle by welcoming anyone with a need. Kim led her life not by words but by a confident kindness she always exhibited when faced with tough decisions, family matters, even confrontations. Kim got things done. Period. So many relied in her for sound advice and a wisdom that reached deep within the heavens. Her integrity was unparalleled and her morals from her Christian faith were the pillars of all her actions. Kim never gloated. She discovered as a young girl that life’s real satisfactions came from sharing the gift of giving. Kim was given that gift ten-thousand times over. Family was the most important aspect of Kim’s life and her actions and their results of the acts Kim performed out of genuine, pure love filled oceans. She was strong and compassionate with her family and to the many co-workers and employees she managed through her career as marketing director for Price Club, a regional sales manager for Sam’s; and as a vice president at both Wells Fargo and PNC banks. Her eyes could light up dungeons when she spoke of her son, Grayson. She was active in all his schools serving on boards and offering her time and professional acumen in any capacity. Kim and Grayson were often together, always jaunting away for school-related events to flying out to catch an NBA basketball game, to cheering on D.C. United at RFK. Kim spent more quality time nurturing Grayson during her 15 years with him than many mothers do in a lifetime. Her dedication to his well-being and lessons of confident kindness manifest directly within his soul. To her husband, Kim was a soulmate and an absolute perfect companion. She knew how to love him and understood his personality and needs like no other. She was always by his side. She was his blonde bombshell and everything about her he found to be the epitome of beauty, life, and love. Her mother, Karen, was a huge part of Kim’s life, and Kim worked endlessly and tirelessly to get her mother to a safe place where Kim could be close and take care of her. Weekend after weekend, she traveled north to take care of her mother’s estate and safely guide her to a new home in Virginia.
She is survived by her husband, Bonn; her son, Grayson; mother, Karen Roach; sister, Trina Roach; brother, Michael Jacobs; niece, Brianna Church; cousin, Randy Keeney and wife, Dianne, and their son, Brandon; mother-in-law, Rita Garrett; sisters-in-law Jennifer Olson and Cami Loudermilk, brother-in-law Paul Olson, and 11 more nieces and nephews: Abigail Olson, Elizabeth Olson, Riley Loudermilk, Jalen Loudermilk, John Olson, Bella Olson, Malek Loudermilk, Ruby Olson, Eva Olson, Jude Olson, and Guinevere Olson.
On April 22, her husband’s 50th birthday, he and Grayson will celebrate the amazing time in their lives due to a woman they were honored to have had beside them for 19 and 15 years respectively. She touched every ounce of their soul from the simplest of ways to the most extravagant. Grayson and Bonn invite you join them for a celebration of the life of Kimberly Ann Garrett on Sunday, April 22, at 1 p.m. at the Graham Funeral Home on 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake. Please come share any memories and thoughts with them on that day. In addition, anyone who wishes will have an opportunity to write a memory at the service for Grayson and Bonn to cherish and share with her mother and all else. Kim’s legacy will continue through a non profit association she wanted to begin when she was with us. Grayson and Bonn remain open to suggestions and needs. Please visit her webpage at www.grahamfuneralhome.com to view the time of sharing and to leave a note to the family.
