Obituary for Thomas John Worden

Thomas John Worden
Thomas John Worden of Virginia Beach was called to his heavenly home April 6, 2018. A quiet and humble man, he led his life and his family with steady strength. He was well-loved and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Tom was born March 1, 1977, in Gloversville, N.Y., to Lorren and Mary Worden. He was raised in Northville, N.Y., and graduated from Northville Central School in 1995.

He joined the United States Navy after graduation, serving as a nuclear electronic technician and later working in management for Navy contractors. While in the Navy, he earned a bachelor’s degree in business and later earned master’s degrees in religious education and divinity from Tabernacle Bible Baptist College & Seminary.

Tom married Rene Padgett on July 11, 2003, and together, they raised four children, Kathryn, Esther, Emma and Jonathan. He enjoyed spending leisure time with his family, making lasting memories, and they will cherish his legacy.

He was a loyal, faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, Va., where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher, coordinated the sound ministry, ministered to others through Bible studies and counseling and also helped to maintain the church grounds. He also taught at the college and seminary.

Tom and Rene had a special passion for military families, reaching out to those who were newly stationed in the area or whose family members had been deployed. They frequently opened their home to missionaries and families in need.

Tom is also survived by his mother, Mary Worden, of Northville, N.Y., and sisters Amy Winnie of Northville, N.Y., Kathryn Williams-Yaddaw of Johnstown, N.Y., and Julie Pitcher of Broadalbin, N.Y. He also leaves behind as four nieces, Hailee Williams and Erika Pitcher, Faith McCord and Laci Green, and four nephews, Isaiah Williams, Anthony Green, Tyler Green and Caleb McCord. His father, Lorren Worden, preceded him in death.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 13. 2018, at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, Va., preceded by a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be at 3 p.m. at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Va.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a fund being established for Tom’s children’s college education. Contributions can be sent to Dr. Gerald Padgett, pastor of Emmaus Road Baptist Church, 3000 Berkley Ave., Chesapeake Va. 23325.

Arrangements are by the Graham Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake, Va. Please visit www.grahamfuneralhome.com to leave a note of condolence to the family.
