Obituary for Jill Marie Gray

Jill Marie Gray
Jill M. Gray, 52, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 10, 2018. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Jill accepted the Lord as her personal Savior in the third grade and felt a calling on her life to be a missionary. While attending Taylor University, she had the opportunity to go on several mission trips and spent 2 weeks living on skid row in the inner city of Chicago where she said, “my eyes were opened to the needs of the poor people in our country.” She graduated from Taylor with a degree in Elementary Education. In 1988, she came to Chesapeake, Virginia to teach kindergarten at Greenbrier Christian Academy.
While teaching, she met and married Rev. John W. Gray, Jr. and for the past 24 years they have been serving the Lord together at The Union Mission, Norfolk, VA. John is the Executive Director and Jill served as the Administrator of the Women and Children’s Shelter, The Wellness Program Coordinator, Ladies Auxiliary Coordinator and was involved in various other projects in the ministry.
Jill had the heart of a servant, always helping and encouraging others.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband, John Gray; her children, Abigail and Joshua Gray; parents, Harold and Linda Adams of Auburn, IN; sisters, Susan Johnston of Knoxville, TN, and Kristy Adams of Auburn, IN; brother, Kevin Adams of Fort Wayne, IN; and many extended family members and friends. She will be greatly missed by her Hope Haven and Union Mission family.
A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 12 pm at Colonial Baptist Church, 2221 Centerville Turnpike, Virginia Beach. The family will be receiving friends beginning at 10 am prior to the service. Please visit www.grahamfuneralhome.com to view her Book of Memories and leave a note to the family.
