Obituary for Robert Stewart Fentress Sr.
Robert S. Fentress, Sr. passed away peacefully at the age of 83 Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help where he was affectionately known as the “Gentle Giant”. Robert was the son of the late Arthur and Mattie Fentress; besides his parents he was predeceased by his best friend and companion, Patricia Lanham.
He is survived by his son, Robert S. Fentress, Jr. and his wife, Teresa; grandchildren, Christi Fentress and Christopher Burns; three great grandchildren; step-daughter, Christina Lanham; step-son, James Check; and numerous cousins and friends.
Robert retired from the Navy Exchange Mobile Canteen at NOB and then went to work for the City of Virginia Beach Garage as an automobile mechanic where he worked his way up to supervisor at two annex sites until his retirement.
Robert and Patricia were members of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Chesapeake for many years. He loved traveling and camping in his travel trailer and fishing in the Chesapeake Bay and on the beach in Hatteras. He loved tractor pulls and small county fairs and parades. When at home he enjoyed carpentry and gardening and listening to country music.
The family would like to thank everyone at Our Lady of Perpetual Help for all of the love and special care they have given Robert over the last three years.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 29, 2018 from 11-12 pm at Graham Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake. A service will begin at 12 at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Pihlcrantz officiating.
