Rev. James Emerson Powell, Jr., 87, went home to be with the Lord January 22, 2018. He was born in Washington, DC to the late Ada Coe Powell and James E. Powell, Sr. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sisters, Beth and Barbara. Jim was a graduate of the Candler School of Theology Emory University, Atlanta, GA. He served as pastor for the next 40 years with the Virginia Methodist Conference including Craddock, Charity and Chesapeake Avenue United Methodist Churches.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving and devoted wife, Virginia Powell; children, James E. Powell, III (Cheryl), Laura Froberg (Kenneth), and Linda Fylstra (David); grandchildren, Sara (David), Andrew (Phoebe), Jonathan (Laura), Abby, Peter and Rachel; great-grandchildren, Sapphire, Alice, Skyler and Jackson.

A service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 3 p.m. at Hickory United Methodist Church, 2708 S. Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake with Rev. Thomas Mercer officiating.
