Condolence From: Hodges Family
Condolence: Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. My Mom and Dad, Edna and Norman, always enjoyed the visits from your Dad out to their home in Great Bridge. Mom is still at home, but not able to get out as much as she would like and sends her condolences. My Dad's mother, Virginia Blassingham Hodges and Barry's mother, Fannie were first cousins and I remember our visits to Portlock back in the 50's and 60's to visit on Sunday afternoons. I enjoyed getting to talk with your Dad on his last visits out to Great Bridge when my Dad was living and the last time he came out to visit Mom. Always a gentleman with a good story to tell. My Dad was an only child and he always enjoyed Cousin Barry and sharing stories of growing up in South Norfolk. I was down with the flu the day of your Dad's funeral, but you all have been in my prayers. Sincerely, Buck Hodges

Condolence From: Donna Poole
Condolence: Gayle, Irv, and Buddy,

Your dad was an unforgettable uncle to me. He exuded a zest for life, and as a child I loved his sharp wit, humor, and playfulness. I always sensed he was glad to see the many Poole kiddos, whether descending upon his and Aunt Ruth's house or at our own home. He had such a humble spirit and gentle manner with all... no wonder he was so respected and loved.

Your faithful caring for him and Joan in his last years is a powerful model of obedience to God in honoring our aging parents. I know the Lord has blessed you even in the challenge of that caring relationship. May your hearts be at peace in releasing your precious father to the only Father he has ever had.

Love you,
Donna Poole

Condolence: My sister and I want you to know how very special your dad was to our family. He took such good care of our mother and aunt who lived next door to your grandmother. He mowed her grass and check in on her. He and your mother played cards with Momma and Aunt Elva every Friday night for several years to be sure they had company. I know that he would do anything that she asked. That meant so much to both of us because we were so far away. He set a good example for you and he will be missed. With love, Betty Hassell Orsland

Condolence: Gayle and Buddy, I will miss your dad terribly. He was the father to me, that I never had. I have so many precious memories of him and his giving heart. He loaned mom his new car twice to travel to Ohio with Uncle JC and Pastor Avery, when she needed to. He made candles for mom and I, he cut mom's grass and always had to have his Pepsi afterward. He rebuilt three bicycles and had them at the house for my boys ( which they remember to this day) when we came to visit mom in the summer. He took us for many boat rides and water skiing on Lake Gaston. I am so thankful Tim and I got to visit him in the Assisted Living Center in September 2015, and I will treasure forever my phone conversation with him about 3 weeks before he died. I loved him and will miss him dearly!
