Obituary for Kenneth Neal Channell

Devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather went home to be with the Lord on October 4, 2017. Born December 11,1927, he was predeceased by his wife, Doris; parents, Major and Myrtle Channell; brothers, Brooks and Kemper Channell; sister, Doreen "Dody" Ankrom; two nephews and a great niece. Ken served in the U.S. Navy on board the USS Maynard. He retired as a General Superintendent for Snow, Jr. and King, Inc.; a Mason and a member of Bricklayers Union No. 8 in Clarksburg, WVA; a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for 35 years. For 56 years he was founder and manager of The Galileans, a gospel quartet with national acclaim.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Kennette Tabor and husband, Richard; sons, David Channell and Timothy Channell and wife, Roberta; sisters, Dotty Daniels and Janie Darling; grandsons, Jason Channell and wife, Desiree and Cory Channell and wife, Jaimie; granddaughters, Ashlie Hopsgood, Samantha Harding and Rachel Kellam; and nine great grandchildren.

Ken never met a stranger and was a wonderful friend to many. Ken was strong in his Christian faith and was loved by all. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to The Virginia Annual Gospel Singing Convention. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake, on Friday, October 6, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 12 noon at Deep Creek Baptist Church, 250 Mill Creek Parkway, Chesapeake.
