Obituary for Joyce Lee Gray

Joyce Lee Gray
Joyce Lee Gray, 82, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 30, 2017. Born in Emporia, VA she was the daughter of the late Twilley and Ellen Smith Cobb. Joyce was proud to be raised in Berkley, VA and this is where she met and married her loving husband of 50 years, the late William Gene Gray. She had a special place in her heart for helping others and would volunteer every year helping handicap children at Camp Civitan Acres as well as driving the handicap bus for G. A. Treakle Elementary. She lived in her home on Ardmore Cir for over 60 years and her neighbors became family to her. She enjoyed cooking, visiting the beach, and fishing at Fort Story and Lynnhaven Fishing Pier. Besides her many interests, none could compare to the love she had for spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Pamela Woodard (Dennis); son, William "Billy" Gray, Jr.; grandchildren, Amber Caudell (Mark), Ashley Woodard, and Matthew Gray; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Evan Caudell; brother, John Cobb (Linda); sister-in-law, Jean Cob; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Pam Smith, Helen Sumner, Mary and Danny Harper, Pat and Richard Jones, and Fran Covell.
Besides her parents and her husband she was also preceded in death by her sister, Peggy Mayfield; brother, Jesse “Sonny” Cobb; and brother in law, Jack Mayfield.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 from 6 pm to 7:30 pm at Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Rd. Chesapeake. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at 11 am at Kingdom Life Ministries, 1280 Bells Mill Rd, Chesapeake. Burial will follow at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.
