Robert L. Atwood, 77, of Great Bridge passed away September 5, 2017. Robert was born in Norfolk to the late Elliott and Nettie Bramble Atwood. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother, John E. Atwood. He was a graduate of Norview High School; served in the Virginia Army National Guard retiring as a Major. After holding many positions in Public Works at NAS Oceana and Dam Neck, he retired after 28 years of service in 1997 as a Utilities Superintendent. Robert loved to fish and was a member of Great Bridge Fisherman’s Association.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 56 years, Dolly Warren Atwood; children, Robert L. Atwood, Jr., Brian K. Atwood and Mary B. Atwood; grandchildren, Chelsea, Robby, Tyler, Camryn, Noah, Christian, David and Shane; his sister, Velma Atwood Martin; and sister-in-law, Jane Atwood.

The family will receive family and friends Friday, September 8, 2017 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake. A service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Kevin Ritter officiating. He will be laid to rest at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.
