Melvin L. Babb, Sr., 88, formerly of Hornsea Rd, Chesapeake passed away August 5, 2017. Melvin was born in Suffolk to the late Claude and Maggie Nelson Babb. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Betty N. Babb; a son, James “Jim” N. Babb; sisters, Hazel Lawrence and Virginia Michael; and brothers, Clayton, Johnnie and Edward Babb. He was a graduate of Suffolk High School; was drafted and served his country as a paratrooper in the United States Army; and retired after 35 years of service from Ford Motor Company. Melvin was a member and deacon of Woodland Heights Baptist Church, Chesapeake and in 2012 he was named Deacon Emeritus for his faithful years of service.

He is survived by his sons, Melvin “Mel” L. Babb, Jr. (Deborah) and R. Wayne Babb (Charlene); three grandchildren, Megan Babb, Ashley Babb and Anthony Fuller.

The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. A service to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Woodland Heights Baptist Church, 529 Providence Rd, Chesapeake with Dr. Ken Barnes officiating.
