Obituary for Julius Rober "Buddy" Johnson

Julius R. “Buddy” Johnson, 83, passed away at his home July 31, 2017. Buddy was born in Charlottesville, VA to the late Samantha Eaton Johnson and Cecil S. Johnson, Sr. He served his country in the United States Army; was a 1956 graduate of the University of Virginia; member and served on the Deacon Board of Grassfield Baptist Church, Chesapeake; and retired with Texaco, Inc. after 30 years of service, he served as the President of Texaco Retirees Chesapeake and Virginia Beach Club, and organized many of the Texaco retiree’s reunions. Buddy spent many summers at Douthat State Park as a Ranger, he also loved hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, ME. He was a member of Boy Scouts of America and earned his Two Palm Eagle Scout certification and was a mentor to many children; he was an avid history buff and enjoyed genealogy. He also enjoyed woodworking, having built furniture, log cabin bird feeders and blue bird houses of which many of his friends enjoyed.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Anne Collins Johnson; brothers, Cecil S. Johnson, Jr. (Peggy) and Donald W. Johnson; as well as nieces, nephews and numerous other family and friends. The family would like to thank everyone at Urology of Virginia, Virginia Oncology and his nurses at Compassionate Care of Chesapeake for their loving care and support.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Grassfield Baptist Church, 1772 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. He will be laid to rest on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery, 1701 Chesapeake Street, Charlottesville, VA.
