Walter M.  Ashley, Sr.
Walter "Jibo" Monroe Ashley, Sr. 95, went to be with our Lord and Savior on April 25, 2017 after a long illness. He was the son of the late Joseph T. and Elizabeth A. Bower Ashley and was the loving husband of 68 years of the late Thelma Louise Blevins Ashley. Jibo was also preceded in death by his son, Walter M. Ashley, Jr., 5 brothers, and 1 sister. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. In addition to construction and welding, Jibo worked as an electrician at Brooks Electric Co. and multiple coal companies for 21 years. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. Jibo was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, son and brother. Family was of the utmost importance in his life.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Patricia L. Ashley Crookshanks (Charles) and son, John H. Ashley, Sr. (Jane); 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brother, E. Darrell Ashley; and a host of other family and friends.

The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake, on Friday, April 28, 2017 from 6 to 7 p.m. A service to celebrate his life will be held at Fairview Baptist Church, 1204 Tatemstown Road, Chesapeake, on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.
