Obituary for George Leonard Simmons

George Leonard  Simmons
George Leonard Simmons, 92, passed away October 10, 2016 after a brief illness. George was born February 8, 1924 in the Berkley section of Norfolk, VA to the late Dave and Lillie Creekmore Simmons. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Mae King and brother, Dave Simmons. George retired from the Tidewater Regional Transit with 36 years of service as a bus driver. He was an active member of Southside Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the Eagles Lodge 795, a member of the South Norfolk Moose Lodge, and the AFLCIO. George married the love of his life, Corretta, and spent 70 years by her side. He was a loving husband and awesome father who was always there for his family.
Besides his wife, he is survived by sons, Ernie Simmons (Rita), George "Cotton" Simmons (Andrea), and Harvey Simmons (Debbie); granddaughters, Denise (Chris), Lisa, Ashley, and Courtney; grandsons, Patrick (Mary) and Tyler; great-granddaughters, Elaina, Emma, and Emerson; great-grandsons, Grayson and Haiden; and a host of other family and friends.
The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Services,1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake on Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. A service to celebrate his life will be held at the funeral home on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk.
