Obituary for Robert Stephens Slamin

The angels came for Robert Stephens Slamin, 84, of Engle Avenue, September 20, 2016. Bob was born in Boston, MA to the late John Albert and Harriet Tressider Slamin. He served his country in the United States Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War retiring as a Chief Petty Officer after more than 20 years of service; and a member of the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 40. Bob was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Chesapeake; he was formerly a member of St. Bride's Episcopal Church where he enjoyed serving on the vestry and as Senior Warden; he served as a delegate to the Diocesan Council for St. Thomas and St. Bride's.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Slamin; daughters, Constance D. Williams and Beverly A. White (John); son, Daniel R. Slamin; grandchildren, Shannon Scharnhorst (Keith), Colin Williams, Jacob White (Jessie), Benjamin White (Heather), Nicholas White (Kristen), Nathan White, Caprice Allen (Lawrence) and Candria Slamin; great-grandchildren, Kiersten Scharnhorst, Noah White, Meriel White, London and Cameron Allen.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 233 Mann Dr., Chesapeake with the Rev. Carlotta B. Cochran officiating. His final resting place with full military honors will be at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial State Veterans Cemetery. Graham Funeral Home will be caring for arrangements.
