CHESAPEAKE- Gerald Haywood Jackson, 78, went to be with the Lord, August 30, 2016 with his family by his side. He was born in Buelersville, NC to the late Clifford and Rena Thigpen Jackson. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Cecil Jackson and Skeeter Childress and sister, Linda Stroud. Gerald proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict in the US Air Force. Later retiring as a longshoreman after 31 years of dedication from ILA Local #1970. Gerald was a loving husband, father and friend who enjoyed nature whether feeding ducks, watching birds or working in the garden.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 27 years, Virginia Gail Jackson; daughters, Teresa Klapperick, Diana Phillips (Jeff) and Jamie Weihe; son, James Hudson; grandchildren, Ashley, Dustin, Destinie, Devin, Corbin, Izaya, Jazmine; Addison-Rae and Yzabella; great-grandchildren, Braxton, Carter and Noah; siblings, DJ Thigpen, Maxine Childress, Judy Rellos, Wilber Jackson, Marsha Hair and Nettie Bednarz; sister-in-laws, Doris and Teresa Jackson; several nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, September 5, 2016 at 2 pm at Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Rd., Chesapeake with Rev. Ernest Trueblood officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at noon. He will be laid to rest on a later date at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk.
