Obituary for Billie Marie Letts

Billie Marie Letts
Billie Marie Brooks Hoffman Letts, 6 months shy of her 100th birthday, went home on July 11, 2016. After a long battle with dementia she is finally at peace and rejoicing with her Savior. A native of Garrison, ND, where her mother had emigrated to from Norway, she was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, George William Letts; her parents, Wallace Eugene and Maritta (Martha) Hansen Akeren Brooks; twin sisters, Clara and Wilhelmina Brooks; first husband, Samuel Hoffman; and her niece, Sandra Thorpe. Billie was a loving daughter, sister, mother, wife, and grandmother (better known as Nana), as well as a wonderful homemaker known for her ability to cook delicious meals without using recipes! She worked at the Bremerton Shipyard during World War II and later became a dental assistant. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family. She will be dearly missed.

Left to cherish her memory is her sister, Lillian Thorpe Bennett; son, Dennis R. Letts (Mary); daughter, Martha Anne Blau (Jerry); grandsons, Ron Letts (Jill), Michael Letts (Melanie), Tony Letts (Chelle), Micah Eugene Blau; granddaughters, Marie McCoy (Aaron) and Joanne Blau; eight great-grandchildren; her neighbor and friend, "Buddy" Hannah; and a host of other family and friends. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to Maria Mercado, Ruth Koch, and all the Kindred Hospice nurses for the loving care that was provided in the final weeks of Billie's life.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 22, 2016 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 3 p.m. at Kempsville Baptist Church, 5204 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach. Burial will be at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made in her name to the "Sons of Norway" at www.sofn.com. Please visit her Book of Memories at www.grahamfuneralhome.com to leave a note to the family.
