Obituary for Helene Ruth Ertle

Helene Ruth  Ertle
Helene Ruth Ertle, 97, passed away July 1, 2016. Helene was born in Cleveland, OH to the late Robert George Ingram and Agnes Helena Anderson. She was married to the late Kenneth Ralph Ertle for almost 45 years.

Helene devoted her life to children. After she graduated from Kent State University in Akron, OH in 1941, she began her professional teaching career with the Cleveland Public School System. Then she chose to work with disabled children through the United Cerebral Palsy Assoc and the Child and Adolescent Service Center in Canton, OH for over 23 years.

Helene lived with her daughter, Joyce who was her caregiver for 21 years. She leaves behind Joyce and her husband, Thomas Metger, their daughter Stephanie and husband Jeff Heiser, and their son Ryland (great grandson); daughter Lynne and her husband William Russell, their children Sara and Brent and his wife Laura, and their daughter Alice (great granddaughter); son, Lawrence and his wife Denise Ertle and their children Christina, her two children Caylee and Caeden (great grandchildren), Ian, his son Ethan (great grandson) and Justin Ertle.

The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake on Friday, July 8th from 6 pm-8 pm. A service to remember and honor Helene’s life will be held on Saturday, July 9th at the Chesapeake Arboretum, 624 Oak Grove Road, Chesapeake at 10am with Pastor Vic Ramsey officiating. Guests are invited to attend a catered reception in Helene’s honor at Graham Funeral home immediately following her remembrance service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the United Cerebral Palsy Assoc., Kent State University or Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters play therapy program.
