Helen Coffield  Davenport
On March 18, Helen Coffield Davenport left all pain behind and passed peacefully into the presence of her Heavenly Father at the age of 96. Helen was born in Hertford, NC to the late Kader and Mary Coffield and was the loving wife of the late Joshua E. Davenport.
During World War II Helen worked for the Ration Board. After the war, she and Josh started up Davenport Market in the Oak Grove section of Norfolk County. She was also a teacher at Great Bridge High School until she retired as the head of the business department in 1985. She started teaching sunday school while she was in high school and continued teaching sunday school until she was well in her 80s. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star,Great Bridge Chapter and was the Worthy Grand Matron of Virginia in 1977.She was a member of the Alpha Chapter of the Alpha Delta Kappa teachers sorority. She was the treasurer of the Meals on Wheels of Chesapeake and a member of the Board of Directors for many years.

She is predeceased by her parents, husband and daughter, Linda Gates.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Penny Davenport and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Great Bridge Baptist Church on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 4:00 pm. A celebration of her life and Eastern Star rites will follow at 5:00 pm at the church with Rev. James Harrington officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
