Obituary for Edith Geraldine Coburn Etheridge

Edith Geraldine Coburn  Etheridge
Geraldine "Jerry" Coburn Etheridge, 91, of Hawthorne Drive passed away January 1, 2016. She was born in Robersonville, NC to the late John and Eva Stevenson Coburn and was predeceased by her husband, Elbert S. Etheridge. She was a graduate of Robersonville High School and Morrison's Beauty Academy (now Hicks). Jerry was a member of Indian River Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday School for many years and was a past member of the Women's Missionary Union and served on numerous committees throughout the years. She was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class, the Merry Makers Senior Citizen Club and the Sentara Plus Senior Group. Jerry retired after 20 years of service with Lifeway Christian Resources, formally the Baptist Book Store of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Sandra Bennett and her husband, Michael of Alexandria, VA and Vickie G. Etheridge of Chesapeake; three grandchildren, Kerry Bennett of Charleston, SC, John Bennett of Alexandria and Jeri B. Stokes of Chesapeake; two sisters, Christine C. Davenport of Robersonville, NC and Betty C. Dickerson of Murfreesboro, TN; a great grandchild, Ava Stokes; and several nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate her life will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Indian River Baptist Church, 1600 Laurel Avenue, Chesapeake with Pastor Burt Kirk officiating. Burial will follow at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, Chesapeake on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Indian River Baptist Church.
