Condolence: Jon, Andy, Robin, Vicky, Dawn, Wendy and Mary, I wish I could have made it to the service to say goodbye to a long-time friend and to see you all again, but the travel logistics just did not work out. The friendship Alan and I had was 45+ years. The bond we forged long ago on Anza Street survived those years. He and I always tried to keep in touch even when it was not possible to see each other. I was lucky in that several of my jobs afforded me to travel and see Alan over the years both in California, Colorado and Virginia. My company, Stifel, purchased another investment firm named Sterne Agee which closed in mid-July of 2015. I was given 10 additional branches to my territory, including three in Virginia (Fredericksburg, Richmond and Norfolk). I was excited in that it gave me a reason to see my old friend. The company wanted me to see the new branches between late July and the end of September. I knew Virginia would be my first trip. So on August 3rd I made it to Norfolk and called Alan about getting together for dinner. Something just told me not to pass on the opportunity to see Alan. I had flown into Baltimore, had meetings in Fredericksburg and made the drive to Norfolk but I was tired. It would have ben very easy to just order room service. Now, he had shared some medical information with me, but as you all know, he was very private. Alan said he really could not gather the strength to go out some where, could I come by the house. So I went to the house for our visit and went to Carrabba's and got us dinner. I tell you this not because I did anything tremendous by being Alan, it's that I really believe that God wanted me to see my friend while I had the chance. Yes, it was painful to see the friend I used to go backpacking with, shared a bedroom with (Anza) shared an apartment with, marched in band together and talked frequently to about life (especially about Jon and Andy) had become so frail. I told him I wish I had come a week sooner so I could have seen his sisters and he said...no It was a disaster here. I'm just glad to see you now. Last week he called and asked me how the rest of my trip to Virginia went, told me he loved me and said I'm glad you came by and visited. I'm very glad I did too. I would very much like to keep-up my friendship with Alan via Jon, Andy and his siblings. Condolence: I can't find the words to express our sadness. Alan was a dear friend who was always cheerful, and persistent about enjoying life in spite of any challenge he faced. I have many fond memories about the time I spent with Alan, and he'll be sorely missed. Please accept our deepest condolences and let us know if there's anything that we can do for any of you.

Condolence: How sad. It's a real shock. He was so young. My sincerest condolences, thoughts, and prayers to all of you. I find it hard to believe that it's been more than 50 years since I saw Alan when you were living in Mansfield and Framingham. RIP Alan.

Condolence: Alan is my son-in-law's father and in the brief time I've know him, I've come to know a loving man with a generous spirit. Alan was an excellent cook, and lover of wines and John and he swapped many recipes and wine labels. He loved to fish and the outdoors...but most of all he loved his boys.
He will be greatly missed.

with great sympathy and love,
Peggy and John
