Obituary for George Rentz Rice

George Rentz  Rice
CHESAPEAKE-George Rentz Rice, 80, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 3, 2015 in Chesapeake, Virginia. He was born August 24, 1934 to the late Norman and Sarah (Rentz) Rice. Besides his parents, his brother Paul Rice and nephew, Bradley Rice, precede him in death. He married Carolyn Bibb Swain on June 16, 1957, recently, celebrating their 58th wedding anniversary. George graduated from Wofford College in 1956 playing football and recognized as a part of the (Little) All American team that year. Although, the Washington Redskins drafted him, he chose to forego that opportunity and to serve in the US Army for the next seven years and attained the rank of Captain. George had a distinguished career in insurance, but his greatest love was for his wife, the Lord and memorizing Scripture.
Survivors include his loving wife Carolyn; children, George Rentz Rice, Jr. (Harriet), Nancy Rice Dickerson (James) and Jonathan Haywood Rice (Susan); grandchildren, Parker, Beth, Russ, Nicholas, Alexandrea, Austin, Lauren, and Victoria; 4 great-grandchildren; nephew, Jim Rice and numerous other loving family and friends.
A celebration of George Rice''s life will be held at 2 pm, Wednesday, July 8, at Graham Funeral Home at 1112 Kempsville Rd., Chesapeake, VA. with Rev. Ben Bonnici officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 7 from 6 - 7:30pm at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk at a later date.
