Norfolk - Joan Padden Hickman, 85, passed away at home in Oak Hill, Virginia on Friday, April 17, 2015 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Roanoke, Virginia to Frances Willard Wesson and Harold Joseph Padden on April 30, 1929, but called Norfolk home for over 50 years. Joan was a Pi Beta Phi graduate of William and Mary, Class of 1951. She carried the Pi Phi traditions to Washington and Lee where she was a House Director for seven years. Joan was predeceased by her husband, Charlton Lawton Hickman, Jr., son, David Hickman, granddaughter, Sara Hickman, and sister, Debra Scott. Joan is survived by daughters Connie Cooper (husband Tom) and Carol Kiefner (husband Mark), grandchildren Sierra Cutting (husband John), Chad and Megan Cooper, Lauren Timberlake, great grandchild Layla Gallup, niece Jody Scott, and lifelong friend, Joyce Ramey. A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Saturday, April 25, at noon, located at 8100 Granby Street, Norfolk, VA 23505. A memorial service and celebration of Joan's life will follow at Larchmont United Methodist Church, 1101 Jamestown Crescent, Norfolk, VA, 23508, 1 p.m.
