James “Jim” Frances Moriarty, 75, of Virginia Beach, VA passed away Sunday, November 2, 2014.
Born in Renovo on May 5, 1939, he was the son of James Francis and Margaret Lee Besanceney Moriarty who both preceded him in death.
On October 5, 1963 Jim married Nancy Ann Rauch who continues to reside in Virginia Beach. They recently celebrated 51 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Lynne Denise Moriarty and James Patrick Moriarty, both of Virginia Beach; a sister, Janice Lee Moriarty (Wayne) Taylor of Louisville, KY; a brother, Richard (Marge) Moriarty of Millersville, PA; one sister-in-law, Diane Rauch Tolomay (Jim) of North Bend, PA; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jim received his bachelor’s degree from Lock Haven State College and later obtained his masters degree from Penn State. He taught English, Reading, History, and Drivers Education at Bucktail Area High School until he retired in 1994.
Jim was involved in numerous civic organizations to include past president of Rotary, lifelong member and past Exalted Ruler of Renovo Elks Lodge, previous member of the Flaming Foliage Committee, a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and a past member of the Renovo Community Choir. He was also previously on the WCCRA Board of directors and a past member of the Bucktail Medical Center Board of Directors.
After moving to Virginia Beach in 2004 he continued his community involvement and was a member of NAMI (National Alliance of the Mentally Ill) Virginia Beach and a member of The Ascension Catholic Church.
Jim enjoyed swimming, spending time with his family, staying abreast on current events, and listening to Rush Limbaugh. He enjoyed going to dinner at Golden Corral on Fridays with his friends. He also enjoyed caring for his pets and his “grandpets.”
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Renovo with Rev. Father Charles Ugo officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Moriarty Funeral Home & Crematory, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven.
