NORFOLK-James David Jordan, Sr., 76, went to be with his Lord on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014 with his loving family by his side. He was born in Hertford, NC in 1938, the only child of the Gurney and Rosa Jordan. He lived most of his childhood and teen years in the Berkley section of Norfolk. Jim loved the Lord, his family and sports, especially golf.
He was a graduate of ODU and UVA having earned a BA and Master’s Degree in Education. He retired from Norfolk Public Schools after 30 years of dedicated service as a teacher and an administrator.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, James David Jordan, Jr. (Stephanie); daughter, Jennifer Jordan Deal (Bob); his loving grandchildren, James “Jamie” D. Jordan III, Joey and Jake Jordan, Rachel and Lauren Deal. He also leaves a loving step-mother, Amy Jordan, and step-brothers and sisters, Henry, Julia and Sandi; his dear friend and neighbor, Joy Johnson; his former wife, Anne Madsen (Al). The Tarkington family and many friends and neighbors will miss him greatly.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Woodland Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Ken Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Beaver Hill Cemetery, Edenton, NC. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-7:30 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
