Lula Old Smith, 92, went to be with her Lord, April 8, 2014. She was born in Norfolk Co., VA to the late Thomas and Bessie Old. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Frederick H. Smith, Sr., whom she married in 1942 and traveled all over the country supporting his military career. She graduated from Great Bridge High School in 1941 as Class Valedictorian. She later graduated from Keys Business College as a stenographer and applied her skills for Richmond Cedar Works. She loved her family, cooking, gardening, animals and bowling. She was a member of Great Bridge Evangelical Free Church for over 50 years.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Frederick H. Smith, Jr (Claudia), Martin E. Smith (Kay) and Clifton L. Smith (Kim); grandchildren, Martin E. Smith, Bryan Smith, Natalie Jo Marshall, Brian Smith and Brandon Smith; great-grandchildren, Bryson, Brenton, Tage, Mayas and Kay; sister, Mary Ann Wilhelm and numerous other family and friends.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Graham Funeral Home, Chesapeake with Pastor Mike Dingman officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6-7:30 p.m. The family would like to thank Cedar Manor and Allzwell Assisted Living for their loving care. A special thank you to hospice nurses Valerie Byron and Melva Howell for their special care.
